The Rt. Hon. Sir John Major KG CH

Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1990-1997

1983-1987 Parliament

Mr Major’s Written Parliamentary Answer on Housing Benefit – 2 December 1985

Below is the text of Mr Major’s written Parliamentary Answer on Housing Benefit on 2nd December 1985.

Mrs. Beckett Asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in each year since its introduction, what has been the saving from the introduction and increase in non-dependants’ deductions from housing benefit for young people, showing separately the savings from the changes for 16 and 17-year-olds and from 18 to 20-year-olds; and what would be the cost of reversing these changes in a full year at 1985-86 benefit rates.

Mr. Major I regret that this information could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
