PRIME MINISTER:

 

Friendly Fire Incident

Mr. Vaz : To ask the Prime Minister how and when he discovered the names of the American pilots involved in the friendly fire incident in the Gulf war; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister : I do not know, nor do I believe it necessary for me to know, the names of the pilots.

 

Departmental Expenditure

Mr. Sumberg : To ask the Prime Minister if there are any proposals to change the 1992-93 running costs limit for the Cabinet Office : Other Services Vote.

The Prime Minister : Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary supplementary estimate, the running costs limit for the Cabinet Office : other services (class XIX, vote 2) will be reduced by £2,482,000 from £22,892,000 to £20,410,000. This reflects the machinery of government changes announced after the general election.

 

Dalai Lama

Mr. Riddick : To ask the Prime Minister if he will make it his policy to encourage the Chinese authorities to facilitate a visit by the Dalai Lama to Tibet ; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister [holding answer 2 June 1992] : We continue to urge the Chinese Government to start a dialogue with the Tibetan people, including the Dalai Lama. We hope that such a dialogue would open the way for the Dalai Lama to return to Tibet.
