Sir John Major’s Statement on the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust – 28 October 2011

The text of Sir John Major’s statement on the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, issued on 28th October 2011.

SIR JOHN MAJOR:

I am delighted and honoured to accept Chairmanship of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

The Queen has dedicated her life to public service, a remarkable 60 years of which have been on the throne. Through its activities, the Trust will create an enduring tribute to one of our longest-serving Monarchs, who is held in enormous affection by many millions of people around the Commonwealth and the wider world.

The Trust will place great emphasis on enriching the lives of individuals, by focusing on areas such as the tackling of curable disease and the promotion of all forms of education and culture.

It is our hope that people of all ages, and from all corners of the Commonwealth and the wider world, might become involved – and feel part of – the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. But the Trust will provide a lasting legacy, in the name of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and I look forward to announcing the Trustees, and to providing full details of the Trust’s aims, objectives and operational plans, in due course.
