Sir John Major’s Statement on the Prorogation of Parliament – 28 August 2019

Below is the text of the statement made by Sir John Major on 28 August 2019.

I have no doubt that the Prime Minister’s motive in seeking prorogation is to bypass a Sovereign Parliament that opposes his policy on Brexit.

As events unfold, I will continue to seek advice on the legality of this and other matters, but will be making no further comment for the time being.
