Mr. McLoughlin To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent growth in the economy has been reflected in falling unemployment over the past year.

Mr. Major Strong growth in the economy accounts for the greater part of the fall in unemployment of over half a million over the past year, the largest fall since similar records began in 1948.
