Mr. Simon Coombs To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the latest figures for the growth in United Kingdom productivity since 1980.

Mr. Major Whole economy output per head rose at an average annual rate of 2.7 per cent. between 1980 and 1987. Manufacturing output per head rose at an average annual rate of 5.1 per cent. between 1980 and the three months ending in February 1988.
